So, was surfing the Craigslist ads and came across a guy that was selling a few cabs, one of them was a gyruss. I get the guys number and he tells me he is moving and is selling it for 100 bucks. I drive over to his place, and he has them all lined up plugged in in the garage. And I notice it's not a gyruss like I'm used to seeing. I watched John's restore on one, kind of an unmistakable cabinet. It plays well, monitor looks great. So I pick it up. But I can't find anything on this goofy looking marquee or the cabinet shape in general. Any knowledge out there for me?

That's a weird coin door, if you poke around inside the cabinet you might find a serial number or something with a clue to what it was originally.

Any chance of close up pics of the writing on the marquee and on the instructions?

Stern cabinet. Maybe used to be a Super Cobra?

Konami (not Centuri) sold a kit to covert other games to Gyruss. That has that kit installed in a Stern cabinet.

The dedicated cabinets in the USA were made by Centuri using their own artwork. However, the game PCB and gameplay was licensed from Konami. MAKE SENSE?

It's a Konami game. Only Centuri had the rights for the dedicated cab. Everything else was Konami conversions.

#1 - Conversion kits were sold by the developer, Konami.
#2 - Dedicated cabs were licensed to Centuri by Konami.

Yeah, that does make sense. I was just curious because I have an empire city that was clearly converted from a Mach 3. Art was painted over, and the inside tags proved it as well, but this one had nothing. Thank you all for the help.

Could explain why you see lots of the board sets out there without the "Licensed by Centuri" text...
