I have a Pacman Plus and once in a while Pacman has a blue block around him. It goes a away for a little while then comes back. Has anybody seen this before and knows what to look at to fix this?

Thanks,

Kevin.

initial guess would be bad eprom or bad connection with eprom. Maybe the sockets are dirty for 5e 5f

Just replaced 5e and 5f with no change, but haven't had a chance to check the sockets. I will have to do this this weekend.

I put contact cleaner on the sockets and then let it dry. Tried the game with the same results. The blue block is only around pacman and nothing else on the screen.

i'm honestly not sure. The eprom feeds the output buffer memory almost directly and all the sprites share that same pathway. the only thing left I can think of is the color prom is bad. Maybe the palette is bad that pacman uses and nothing else.

Ian thanks for responding. I will have to look at the color proms next.

I soldered a cap kit for this board and still getting the same blue box around Pacman. I also tried it in a known good cab with proper voltage, this did not help. Anybody else have any ideas?

This issue is caused by the sprite roms. Put them in an eprom reader and verify them with the ones from mame. I guess that fixes your problem.

Reflow solder to 5e and 5f sockets. Already tested and programmed new 5e and 5f. This did not help. Color prom 7f and 4a I reflowed solder to these sockets. I had already replaced one of these sockets. Just need to check color prom programming.

How does one read the color proms? I have a Xeltek SuperPro III programmer, but don't know what device to choice to read these. If his programmer can read them. Please help me!

some of the really old ones can do it like the data IO or datamann. I think there are a few others but I don't know too much about every programmer there is.

I think the TOPMAX II can do some bipolars as well.
