Hi, new member here.

I've been having trouble with my DK Jr. and thought I'd see if anyone here knew what direction I should go in.

Game was working fine a few months ago but needed a cap kit. Before the cap kit was put in I washed the pcb because it was so dirty. I let it dry for over a month (been busy) so I'm not worried that it was still wet. Plus I didn't hear any of the sounds a wet board would make when plugged in. But now I'm getting a blue screen. Music will play some before it cuts off and will then try to repeat. When I was cleaning the chips I kinda bent one leg but thought it would be okay but now I'm wondering if that could be the problem? Chip was 5B. Any thoughts? I have no idea where to start. I did read that the DK Save kit, will replace "5A","5B","5C", and "5E" on the board. This would be like getting all new chips that wouldn't have any corrosion on them and I can save my game. Could this be a solution? Like I said, game was working fine earlier so it had to be something I did. Completely new to this but I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

Thanks!

Well that chip doesn't look very good at all. Other than the ton of rust that leg probably isn't making good contact with the socket.

You think it'd be a good idea to give the save kit a chance?

Although I wasn't going to buy one right now I was going to get one eventually so I guess it couldn't hurt. Not sure what to do if that didn't fix it though

I doubt it will fix it. It doesn't replace any eproms directly on the board. You can always order new eproms for it lots of people sell eproms

You know of a good place to buy them? And what do I search for when buying them? Like this one is 5B. Do I just buy an eprom called 5B or is there more to it?

Sorry, I sound so clueless.

Well you have mikes arcade that has this
https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=DKJRROMS $40
which replaces everything (might not be too bad of an idea since you probably have a ton of rust everywhere)

you could do this from mike
http://mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=EPROM2532 $15
just tell him to burn a 5B from dkjr

there is also http://www.hobbyroms.com/videogames.html $15
you will need to tell him to burn a 2532EPROM for a 5B donkey kong jr.

There are a few guys on KLOV that will do it but i don't know who, sometimes they post it in their sigs.

I also do eprom burning
https://iankellogg.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_18&products_id=31
Just put that the eprom is for 5B dkjr just in case i forget if you do that.

Hey man I ordered one from you. Really good price. I checked my other chips and they are all in good condition with hardly any rust (which I cleaned off). The 5B leg broke off though when trying to refix it so I'm really thinking that's the problem.

Thanks for your help. Can't wait to try it

No sticker to protect the chip from UV light as well. Did you know that destroys the content of an eprom?

A large majority of games didn't put stickers over the windows. The reasoning was that the game was in the cabinet, its dark. Even with a sticker the eproms can just get bit rot. The claimed data retention for a lot of eproms is only listed as 20 years.

I didn't know about that! That worries me a little, but at least it could be another road to go down if this doesn't work. Just replace the rest of the eproms.

I have a good feeling about it just being this one though.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll be sure to update!

Hey man, got your part today. Really good job with your service. I can give you positive feedback if there is anything for that on your page

Unfortunatley it didn't fix the problem. I got to a full blue screen once but got the same problem when I tried it again

I'm completely lost on what it could be

I'll take a look tonight, but from what I remember they all looked pretty good. Who knows though. I could have somehow dislodged them

This does sound like a problem with the pcb right, and not the monitor or chassis? I would think if it was one of those two I wouldn't even be getting the blue screen at all
