Using JB Weld to fill in metal holes

What type of backing should be used when filling holes with the JB weld stuff?

I was thinking masking tape, painters tape...something that the JB Weld won't stick to.

Does it really matter?  Does anyone have a preference and if so, what do you use?

I have done this before. Check out my Gyruss coin door restore vid.

I used washers.

I used some thin scrap sheet steel to make permanent patches when I had to fill holes in my qbert control panel.
I've also used pennies to fill small holes before, pennies are so worthless, there isn't much else you can do with them

I use a holesaw and cut the pieces I need from sheetmetal.. then tac weld and grind those into the panel I am repairing.
