Q*bert restoration Project #1 -

Picked up the Cabinet, w/power supply, few wires, coin door and box.  Major water spotting, but I think it was some other chemical.  Just seems weird that its so random.  Side-Art is sketchy.  The whole thing was $40 bucks.

My 14-month son loves it.  He walks up and just points to Q*bert on the front, then goes to each side and points to Q*bert in the sideart.  He's only seen parts of Wreck it Ralph...wonder if he is remembering Q*bert from the movie???

What it needs:
1) Q*bert CPO
2) Q*bert Joystick and button (1-2player) <- I think this is all that's on the CP???
3) Q*bert Marquee, light, speaker, speaker board
4) Q*bert PCB
5) CRT - Is it suppose to be a 19" vertical?
6) New T-molding (Should I do Black or Yellow?)
7) bezel
Cool Knocker
9) Is there anything I left out???  Its pretty much just a shell right now.

Here are the sanding pics of the cabinet, coin-door and money box.  The CPO sticker was some airplane thing, hence the extra holes.  Stripped that and sanded it to a shiny chrome color.

VertexGuy -

I PM'd the guy with the Marquee's....Oh so tempting to get the swearing marquee.  I opted for the standard though.

I would like to get a monitor from you...but are they a pain to ship?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Hope you got that cab for free, there is a lot of money ahead to get that working.

Is the power supply original? I believe the original had a 30V supply that I think was dropped to 15V?

Good luck with your build, I love Q*bert.

It's worth it to restore these, it's great game to own, cool looking cabinet.  I did mine last year, it was completely painted black and had no artwork left, holes in the CPO, some gouges on the side, and a little swelling. I think I paid $325 for the cab with it's monitor so I don't think $40 is out of line for just the cab. seems like a good starting point for a restore.

Here are some pics of mine...
Before I started:

now it looks like this:

So as you see, it can be done. I went with black t molding like the original had, and never regretted it, all the artwork you need is available at arcadeshop.com

Awesome.....I'm basically on the same journey Smiley

Definitely black leathered T-molding, the black is a nice contrast to the yellow and.....it's original !

Q*bert "PCB" is in fact three PCB's, a power supply board, the sound board and the main PCB.

You also forgot the knocker... ;)

Will watch this !

Thanks guys...nice machines.  It seems like Q*bert has a big following...that's why I bought that cab for $40 to do a complete restore.

My daughter who is 11yrs old help strip off the old CPO(a really big A** job!!!..Holy Cow)...she's really getting into the restoration.  My son 16yrs old is helping out too.

I just wish the weather would warm up so I could get some painting done!!!

PS. How do you order from Arcadeshop.com?  I sent the guy an email...haven't heard back.  I didn't see a cart option or checkout.

Thanks,
MK

Hey Offset -

Yep...found it interesting...didn't know there really was a big Q*bert following.  It's going to be a long process I think.

I'm missing the board right above the monitor....I'm thinking that is where the speaker sits?  Looks like about 24"x24" 1/4" thick piece of plywood would go there.

I de-converted mine from Mania Challenge and it was my ever first arcade game.   I love Mania Challenge, but I couldnt let a Qbert cabinet not look like Qbert again.

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=282323

In its current state, I run a dedicated Qbert using the 412-in-1 vertical jamma blue elf board using Qbert CP and Qbert joystick.

When the new JROK qbert board comes out, I'll switch to it and hope to get the knocker working.

Mine had a vertical Wells Gardner monitor in it.

You are missing the speaker panel? I can probably measure the one in my cab for you if you'd like, it has slats in the middle for the sound to escape, and it also has a pair of control panel latches on to to hold it in place for some reason.
