Hey everyone! Couple quick questions for you.... I have an Asteroids Deluxe Cabaret I just bought that I decided to do a monitor cap kit for it hopefully to take care of the slight "breathing" issue I have, and also just to have fresh caps in it. Well I ordered the deluxe kit from Bob Roberts, and when I went to do the High Voltage section I realized at some point someone replaced that card with a G05-801 HV board. All seems to work fine aside from the breathing, but is this an acceptable substitute in my 805 monitor? Or will there be long term damage from using a different HV section from another monitor? And should I check and adjust voltages on that board somehow?

Also does anyone know of an any acceptable drop in substituted to replace the Voltage Doubler on the 801 HV board? My understanding is that's the equivalent of the HV Diode that goes bad on newer monitors causing breathing issues and I'm guessing once my caps get here for the 801 HV board, if those don't fix my breathing issue I'm gonna assume it's the doubler.

My gut says that there are some issues with using the 801 in an 805 mostly because the input voltage is listed as +25V on the 801 and its listed as +40V on the 805 but if it is mostly working then maybe its not as big of a . either way there is a regulator there and maybe that is doing the job.

As far as the VD900 goes, you are screwed for getting a replacement. but thankfully someone has figured out a proper replacement

So am in danger of something burning up (like causing a fire), or is it a matter of it may just crap out on me at some point because it's an 801 and not an 805.

You were absolutely right...

I downloaded the two manuals last night and compared. The output voltages of the two boards are identical with the exception of the anode which is 14KV for the 801 and 12KV for the 805. But further reading states that's nominal and can go 2KV either way so I'm not sweating that too much. And the input range for the 801 HV board is 23-38Volts, and the 805 is 31-42Volts. So IF the input is still 40V (which I bet it's a little degraded over the years) it doesn't appear it's pushing it too far beyond it's "normal" range. Especially for a game that stays on for a couple hours a day at the very most.

If you know how, can you please direct me on where to read and adjust the 90V on the HV board (I.E. where to put my meter leads, and should everything be hooked up and running when taking/adjusting the voltages?)? The link you provided for the Voltage Doubler replacement states you may have to check and adjust if necessary the 90V after replacing the doubler.

I want to read for 90VDC at pin 5 of P900 (The plug on the HV board), and if needed adjust R912 (The only pot OTHER THAN the focus pot on the board). And do I do this with everything hooked up and running (I.E. under "load" with P900 plugged into the HV Board and the monitor on)?
