Who here lives in a really bad area to be into this hobby?
by bad area I mean arcade machines very very hard to find .. or maybe you do find a few and they are all tore up or hacked.
and finally .. infested with multicades.
There is a couple other people in the hobby near me, but they are sharks.. They will try to sell you something and tell you it works , take your money and run.
One dude in my town is selling parts that isn't even his.. or he sells something ahead of time he hasn't even picked up or bought yet.
he makes himself the middle man and marks the price up.
I have one good source for repair parts, and by parts I mean caps, connectors , ribbons .. and stuff.
As far as arcade machines, they do have an auction near me but goddamn is that auction bootleg.

Finally , when you do find a machine that is decent.. they want a million bux.

Final thoughts are..
Im gonna end up buying a truck or van and travel to PA or further south and buy 5 more machines.
sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet.

Here in Southern California we get: $850 Centipede, $800 Red Baron with a fucked up screen, and a $750 Defender that needs work. Oh, don't forget the $1600 Multicades from Santa Clarita and other disguised locations!

I would pay $700 for a good working centipede with a good cab.
the rest of those can pound up a rope.

I live in the arcade dead zone. The only arcade machine in this entire town is my gumball machine if that give you an idea.

True restoration is an art form. Like any good artist you have to know what your doing. Painting a single line on a canvas and calling it a masterpiece does not fly in restoring a arcade machine. Do it right

I don't craigslist that far out .. I just do your average Hartford craigslist search.
Never saw that one. plus this "When you first turn it on, it plays a little screwy. Once it warms up (about 5 minutes) it plays fine"
would bother the fuck outta me.  Id have to get a truck, pay gas and shit.. buy a new board.. total 700.
When I get a truck at the end of next month im going down south for some machines.
way fucking cheaper.

if you aren't willing to travel 6 hours round trip for games you are going to have a rough time in this hobby.

You are about a 12 hour round trip for me. If I could spare the time to do a two day trip I would love to have those monitors.

I'm definitely in a dead zone. Occasionally there is a rare nugget of gold here or there, but for the most part, there is very little to choose from and prices are unnecessarily hyper-inflated.   Cry

im not in a dead zone, my zone does not exist.

my walmart has one of those fancy coin donation bowls, where the races around and around and drops into a hole. does that count?

welcome to the rural mountains!
