trackball not registering left or right? help! :)

Hey!

I recently bought an old World Class Bowling Deluxe game. It seems to work well overall and plays ok, however I realized the trackball doesn't register left and right. I bought a new (working used on ebay) trackball and installed it - had the same issues. The games requires left and right for play, volume, settings, and high score initials so I know it should be working. The only thing this game tells me when I run thru things upfront is the voltage is low - but I would think that would cause the entire trackball to not work, not just the left and right directions.

well from what you are saying.. Id guess it was broken.

Check your ground connections.  Check you connectivity from the trackball to the PCB.

no.. do this.
What machine you using it on?
If it is a third party trackball there is a chance you might have to swap two wires around on each optic board.
look into that.
