1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Toki - Missing Ground Graphics on: February 02, 2017, 01:49:00 am
Hi all,

I've recently picked up a Toki board with missing ground graphics. Does anyone have any idea which are the graphics EPROMs? Or any suggestions on my best way of finding out?

Thanks.

Obviously this isn't a solution across the board, however MVS motherboards have a similar feature mapped to one of the dip switches. So I believe it would be possible to wire up a button to trigger it instead. I haven't done it though. Obviously if you don't have an MVS this info isn't very helpful, but might be for someone.

3  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Ghosts 'n Goblins Voltage Query on: November 25, 2015, 07:03:16 am
Hi all,

A while ago I picked up a cheap copy of Ghosts 'n Goblins which was totally hosed, but for the price I took a gamble that it was fixable. After a fair bit of work it now works pretty well. One final thing concerns me however, and seems contradictory to most boards I've worked on, and I was wondering if someone with more experience might be able to point me in the right direction. Basically, if I have the voltage at 5v, after about 10 minutes of being on, the graphics will start to flicker reasonably violently. Lowering the voltage to say 4.75-4.8v removes the problem entirely.

I've tested several games on the cabinet without issue, so I don't "think" the power supply is flakey, however it's possible the other games are more resilient. Any thoughts?

Cheers.
4  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: Sound Stopped on Wonder Boy on: May 01, 2015, 09:11:06 am
I finally revisited the Wonder Boy issue after being sidetracked by other projects. So, in the interests of documenting this for anyone else having similar issues in the future, I thought I'd post what the issue was.

Firstly, as suggested I checked what was going in and coming out of the amp, it tested fine.

After very close inspection of the PCB I noticed some slight blackening one of the legs of the UL-N2003 at  IC129. I replaced this and it worked perfectly.

I'd be keen to hear how you go with your Wonder Boy, BloodyCactus.

Hi all,

Sadly, my Wonder Boy has decided that it no longer wants to play sound. 2 days ago it was fine, today - not sure much. I've tested in on a second cabinet, so I'm fairly confident that issue is with the board. I know there is a decent amount of information available for Wonder Boy repairs out there, but was hoping somebody with experience with the board (or similar Sega boards) could steer me in the direction of any likely causes, and easy things to check first up.

Thanks, Rob

In the interests of full disclosure, I'm posting this on Aussie Arcade as well. I hope this isn't in breach of any forum rules.
6  Arcade and Pinball Discussions / Beginner's Help Corner / Neo Geo MVS Battery Replacement Time? on: May 04, 2014, 04:04:42 am
Thanks guys. I did this today and it went well. Battery hadn't yet done any damage but was starting to oxidize slightly. Unfortunately the battery holder didn't line up too well with the battery holes on my 4-slot, even though my mate used the same holder for his 1-slot. It appears not all MVS boards use the exact same spacing. Regardless, some creative soldering sorted it out.

Cheers.

So, I've only owned my Neo Geo cabinet a couple of months, and haven't had any real issues with it. Nothing I couldn't fix certainly. Today, I turned on my machine and noticed that the soft dip switch settings had reset themselves. I thought maybe the battery had gone so I checked my high scores, and sure enough, gone. I've since played a couple of games and it seems to be saving my scores ok. Is it possible that my system (dip switch settings and high scores) reset themselves without a battery issue? Or is it more likely that my battery hasn't entirely gone yet, but is not far from death? I'm thining it's probably that latter, but thought I'd ask.

Thanks

Hi all,

Big fan of John's Arcade and more recently Arcade Outsiders too. I've got a generic Jamma cabinet and Australian LAI Lowboy Neo Geo 4-slot. I'm looking forward to taking part in the forums.

Cheers  Smiley
