Hey all! Happy Halloween from us mad-caders in the UK! :-) It's just not as good as in the US...usually they come to the door and beg for sweets (usually haribos). Sometimes, if they do not get anything or no answer, it's eggs on your car, etc.! -so a lot of us hide inside with the lights out, . Any Halloween Arcades things happening, or some cool pics, etc.? Cheers, DaveO. (UK)

Ribbon cables and header connections fail *very* often on williams games, esp if original ones. -Changed loads...
Now I replace them every time with IDE cables for PCs, etc. :-)
One occasion a 6821 was faulty, replaced, socketed - sorted.
BTW, do a 4164 Ram conversion on the cpu board so it runs cooler, Dave Langley's site has this documented well. 4116's just get waaaaay to hot (due to +12V needed)...
Cheers, Dave.

Arcade and Pinball Discussions / General Arcade and Video Game Discussions / John's flashing lights!

Hey John,
Just listening to your latest Podcast... :-) #28
About your flashing Leds... Ok, so remember these are effectively diodes, therefore are polarised (like an electrolytic capacitor). i.e. *must* go in the correct way around. Google it up. Often then have a kink (oooerr) or a longer leg to denote the anode (+) connection. The cathode (short led) shound connect to 0v/ground. The ground for switches, etc. should be ok, unless there is some mad wiring somewhere? As for Pinball...of course the original lights were bulbs, which can connect any way around as they are not polarised (so basically a resistor).
I am lucky, as I have done electronics since an early age (11), now I am an old feccker at 43! ;-)
Good luck dude, Cheers, Dave.

Hi where are the best arcades in the uk? The ones in wales have turned into jokes. The one in Devon , maybe Somerset closed up. There's an effort in butlins . I'm looking for the uk or eu fun spot . I used to live in the arcades in the 80s. I'm getting back into this, and it's all johns fault. What is the uk equivalent of Craigslist ? I guess it's gumtree. eBay is just a rip off. Just a load of mame cabs usually.
Hey Dean - dude, check out the UK forums I mentioned on my last post. There are not any arcades left in the UK as such, just the usual at the coasts, which are now largely shitty gambling machines, etc. No classic cabs of course. Largely, all the cabs are now in private collections or scrapped (eeeek). Also a fair few Arcade collectors have switched to the dark side (Pinaball only). Some collectors have 40+ cabs (some all working), with others just keeping them at a lock-up (storage for you !). Cheers, DaveO.

Hi, This is Dean from the UK. Thanks to John's Arcade on Youtube, and the VGO Podcast, I'm now hooked and seeking out my first project. If anyone has any tips where to find projects in the UK, all ears.
Fave games, Galaga, Berzerk, Swarm (Galaxians Boot), Phoenix, .....and Pac Land
Good day to you all.
Hey Dean, not to put a dampener on John's Arcade, however for UK Arcade gaming, projects and stuff there are 2 main UK forums which have been running for over 10years:- UKVac ( www.ukvac.com) and JammaPlus ( www.jammaplus.co.uk). There are others, and then Ebay of course... John's videos and podcasts are awesome in their own right, and John, Shawn and Joe to a great fun job of it - giving a lot of their time to this crazy fun mad hobby! Happy Gaming, DaveO (UK).
