1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Re: Space duel pride on the line on: May 27, 2017, 07:49:12 pm
Hey guys,
I have a space duel cocktail that iv been fighting for about a year off and on. the machine has it out for me. its been in our house while i was growing up but monitor hasnt worked in probably 15 years. Decided it was time to fix it, i do believe someone looked at it back in the day, but they were one of the arcade repair guys that say nope cant be fixed but ill give you 50 for it. Of course it has a wells garner k6100 monitor. fuses f100 and f101 blow as soon as it turns on. i have done a full cap kit, chassis transistors, and the few diodes and resistors that i read were common issues. i added the lv2000 board. so far nothing has fixed it. Im sure its something super simple that iv overlooked or just missed. i just went and replaced chassis transistor plastic insulators, noticed on was cracked when i replaced the transistors but didn't think to order them at the same time. my skill level is somewhere between intermediate and complete noob, iv fixed a couple of my other machines but this one has just repeatedly beaten me down with not even a glimmer of hope or progress.
Thanks any help or ideas is appreciated

I'd have a space duel that had a monitor issue as well. I downloaded the 6100 FAQ document and followed the directions regarding that symptom and got it working. I can't recall exactly, but do know that FAQ pointed me in the right direction.

Just wanted to close out this post. I contacted Joey and got the bezel. It was $40. It was well done and I have no complaints. The game truly looks finished now.

Hi, I've been looking for a cardboard bezel for my Space Duel. It's been missing from my game since I got it. I've been looking and posting on several sites for some time with no luck. As I was watching John's Quantum restore 11, I heard him mention getting a cardboard bezel from a guy named Joey Kuda (spelling?) on KLOV. I wasn't able to find his user name. If someone knows what it is or another contact method, I'd appreciate knowing so I can reach out and see if I can purchase a bezel.

Thanks!
Chris

Not sure if this will help, but I had the problem you described where you would see the trace lines for the objects on the screen. I was able to turn the focus and or brightness knob on the high voltage unit to make them go away. Regarding the screen size itself, it sounds like you may also have tried adjusting the pots on the PCB (assuming theY're the same on asteroids as they are on asteroids deluxe). I sent my pcb in for repair and needed to make horizontal and vertical adjustments when it was sent back to me.

You mentioned the transistors. It's not as intimidating or hard as you may think to test the chassis mounted transistors. I had no idea about how to find/test them until I watched John's video about fixing a dead Tempest. It's really pretty simple to do (but does take some time/effort). I suggest you watch that video as it helped me fix my Space Duel.

I just got my Space Duel working and need the black cardboard monitor bezel that goes behind the smoked glass (mine is missing altogether). Does anyone know where I can find one or get the specs to make one?  I think it's the same one that's on a Tempest or Gravitar. I tried free handing one with some heavy poster board, but the result really wasn't pretty. The curvature of the monitor makes it a challenge.
Thanks, Chris
