1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Street Fighter 2 Half Screen problem on: September 24, 2012, 04:45:02 pm
Howdy folks, been a while.

Help! I just landed an awesome Street Fighter 2 Cabinet. Everything works, except one little problem;

The monitor.

Half the playing screen is missing, buried as if beneath the screen and under the very cabinet.

I've played with ALL the adjustment knobs, and other then shrinking, expanding, stretching or getting a dancing jumble of distorted images, I still see only half the playing screen.

Can someone give me some suggestions on how to fix this???

 Huh?

Not well versed on hyperspin. Seen previews on youtube.

Is that a free program like Mala? Couldn't find it.

I always felt the primary appeal was to preserve every video game ever made for the last 30 years. What's a Mame cabinet but a museum display piece for the next generation who wanted to see what their Grandparents enjoyed?

And I've always felt its not the LIST of games, its the list of CABINETS.

How many have Mame cabs and if just for a moment cringe when they see black lines on a classic vertical game like Pac-Man?

Whereas you take a 19 inch CRT tube, turn it to the side, strip it and place in a vertical Mame-

Sweetness.

I have THREE Mame cabs in my game room. Some would say over kill. I disagree.

For starters, you got horizontal, AND vertical screens to contend with. That alone begs for two cabs,

Then you got different consoles, controls ect ect.

Not everyone has the space for 30 odd cabs.

But imagine multi-Mame cabinets.

All racing games in a wheel/pedal cab
All vertical shooters in one cab.
All track ball games (horizontal) in one cab
All track ball games (vertical) in one cab
All six button fighter in one cab
All horizontal 2-3 button / 2 sticks in one cab,

Drill in a few 1 1/8 holes to accommodate a few spinners-

Toss in a cocktail cab converted to mame-

And bang!

A mini-arcade, seven/eight cabs strong.

Plug in a few usb-opti-guns, into your horizontal cabs and your laughing.

Make no mistake, if I had the option I'd go with originals like our host, but Mame is the future, and the past. To say nothing of space saving.

Mame is still akin to 'hanging fakes' in an art museum. But its a pleasant start and frankly only the professionals know the difference.

"My game room is pretty tame compared-"

I think not. Pool, darts, sports tables and two arcade cabs?

Impressive.

You got LOTS of space in that basement mate. Just itchin' for more arcade cabs. Perhaps a pinball?

Oh, and I can appreciate your walls/flag color scheme...but you need to kill the lights...get some neon lighting and a moody pool table lamp!

Well here comes the part where I'm a total laymen when it comes to electronics and whatnot.

What alternate power source do you recommend?

Are you saying I could splice my LED's into a 12 or 5 volt adapter?

I tried that with my volcano cone buttons on my asteroids cab. It worked for a few seconds then slowly faded the way of the 1st Terminators eyes at the movies end. Sad

Some suggest I burned out the lights. Others think that since they were the original '79 LED's that time took its toll.

Whats the quickest (and easiest) way to light these things. I figure I'm gonna have to replace the leds in the asteroids cab anyways.

Howdy all. Just joined your forum ranks and fresh off the proverbial banana in Arcade collecting/gaming.

Brace yourself-

This is a MAME related question-

I have a pair of cabs recently fitted (no mutilations could re-fit with pcb's in a jiffy) and I'd like to light the wee LEDS in same.

A few side considerations;

1. I don't feel comfortable powering them through the same power source of the computers.
2. I don't have LED WIZ
3. I don't have the I-Pac cap/num connectors to power them off the Ipac board.

What I'm asking for basically is a refresher in basic high school electronics.
I'd like to power the LED's in the coin boxes off a linked power cord that would simply plug into the power bar inside the cabs.

Any suggestions?

I've tried a 5 volt adapter and it was a brief light show then dark.

...help?

Ironically I only play that game well when I've had a few drinks in me.

...subliminal advertisement? Or poetic irony...

I always thought that design of cabinet was screaming for a lava lamp nearby.

-If you find a spare cab it'd make a great fish tank. :p

I stumbled across a bunch of these shows on youtube.

Not sure what amused me more. The clothes of our lost era or the way the host(s) presented the games. It wasn't a game show...it was a commercial!

Well I waited a few weeks for our host to approve my addition to the forum ranks. Fair to say he's a busy man-

-Must take months to windex all that cabinet glass. :p

All joking aside, your collection is impressive. Your among an exclusive group on the net that's practically a museum curator of vintage gaming. You ever meet that dude that has an arcade in a farm?

I've enjoyed your vids and I'm digging the whole 'What once was three cabs in the garage are now Legion in the basement'

By the way; Your 'In the basement' opening video statement-

Did you know that in racing terminology that means your race car is busted up? LOL.

Each vid I wonder if you've crashed another car....

I looked up that carpet design. (Shockwave I believe) impressive design. Would cost about 400.00 just to carpet my den!

Lets see if I can figure out how to post pics here;

Howdy all. Names Wil. Been a fan of John's work for the last year. I've recently taken up the hobby of...*gasp*...MAME.

I know, I know...your thinking another cab-hacker, some bloke up North that ruins priceless arcade cabs so he could slap in a computer and some tacky marquee with a mish mash of arcade icons;

Well, no worries! With the exception of spray painting a control panel, I've preserved the 'structural integrity' of my cabinets.

Currently got three cabs. (WrestleFest, Generic RomStar cabinet (Currently with a Moon Cresta marquee) and my proud little center piece; Asteroids Cocktail Cabinet.

All three have been cleaned up, I-Pac'ed and dolled 'em up with CRT tube monitors and speaker/amp hacks.

I'm currently on the hunt for a Golden Tee 2K (original cab) Should have it this Friday barring any problems.

I'm sporting a tiny game room in an apartment den. I figure I can squeeze in a few more cabs before my wife kills me. ;)

Frankly with our currently lodgings, MAME really is the best way to enjoy a variety of games and save space. Long term goals is at least two more. A driver game (Outrun perhaps) and a trackball cab.

So hello all. Hope you don't mind my picking your brains for Arcade savy, and to ya purists, fear not; No cabinets were mutilated during the production of this Canuck's 'Bar'Cade.

'Wil
