1  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Back at the Cruis'N USA - Really need some ideas. on: August 05, 2016, 12:25:45 pm
Hey guys.
I began playing with a cruis'n USA single sit-down last year, and have went back at it last week with refreshed hope. Or so I thought.

I replaced the power supply and even went and got a new JAMMA harness, wired everything up and hit the power.

Initial checks passed, all the Eprom chips passed... and, I hit the "calibrate steering wheel" section, it tells me to center wheel and hit Enter... and... nothing. Can't seem to hit that enter button.

Now... I've checked the voltages on the board... everything is good.

I manually checked all the wiring from the board straight through to the various spots in the cabinet. Lights, buttons, coin door, wheel. Continuity is great.

I also checked the wiring and the button itself to make sure everything was good. (The button being the enter button ( Enter, Vol up, vol down, etc ))

Everything seems to work on this game. From head to toe.... but I can't get it to register that I've hit the enter button when calibrating the wheel... and without doing that I can't get past that screen.

So... does anyone have this game? Does anyone have any ideas?

I've learned so much from this cabinet but now, it's really frustrating since in theory... everything checks out. It "should" work fine! I just can't get past the wheel calibration!!!

Thanks for reading guys.
2  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Gold pins on Jamma connector are... bad looking. Any help? on: September 07, 2015, 02:55:48 pm
Hey guys. The edge connector on a new game I got seems toast. I know they are supposed to be gold, but they are silver. Looks like someone polished the gold right off.

Is there any easy fix to repair it? Or, even better... can the pins be tested to see if they work at all?

Sorry if I missed something... but do other games work when using the JAMMA harness? Or have you tried? You may have a loose/bad connection right in the harness itself. So everything else would work except the controls... if the one pin is bad.

Awesome and welcome Aaron. I'm pretty new myself... but I'm quickly becoming an expert thanks to this place and a few others. If ya have a question, and I can answer in my limited capacity I would be more than glad to. Cheers.

I was thinking of a new board, but everything else seems fine except those chips. I figured someone would have an old board around that maybe doesn't work... but some of the chips are good. But I just can't seem to find any. Just a question... do you happen to know if they are the "Ram" of the machine? Or are they the actual game itself. Or... is there really no such thing as an old box having seperate ram. LOL

would be helpful if you posted what chips were shown as bad.

Pretty sure it's these ones.

Here's the diagnostic picture:
Here's the chip numbers: U 22, U 27, U 23, U 19, U 16, U 29, U 25, U 21

And I forgot to mention this: I can't find anywhere for this cable to plug into?
The number on it is: H - 181186 (The 8s could be 3s ). found the cable... and nowhere to plug it in.

I read somewhere that you could swap the bad chips out and replace them with some of the upper chips that are the same. Something about U 38 area being for linking the games. I don't know. All new to me.
As I said, just having trouble even finding anyone who may have replacement chips... or if it's even worth it. LOL

So... got a sit-down Cruis'n USA game. Game worked a few months ago, I know because I got it from a friend and I've seen it working. Now, however, it doesn't.
After checking all the wires and messing around I got the game to boot up again. Now though, it hangs on the CPU board test. Well, it fails and restarts.

According to the diagnostic, a few of the chips are bad. Shown in red.

Basically, unless I can swap chips from somewhere else on the board, or there's some cool insiders trick to bypass the chips... I need replacements.

I've been looking everywhere to find some kind of replacement chips but simply can't seem to find anyone. I've seen entire boards on E-bay for... a lot of money. But I only need a few replacement chips. ( The socketed ones)

Anyone have any ideas on where to find these?

It's funny how over a few months, not just 1 chips can go bad... but a whole bunch of them!

Hey guys. I'm pretty new here, and new to Arcade Cabinet collecting. I am not new to Arcade games though. Best memories of my youth are taken up by these cabinets.
Anyhow. Just started collecting and found this place. Look forward to some good conversation... and am hoping for a lot of help as I'm already gathering old, non-working cabinets.... and getting the bug. Ha ha.

I restore furniture for a living and restoring cabinets is not a far stretch. Although I'm not a total newbie to electrical... nothing like what's in these old games. Ha ha.

Anyhow. Cheers guys!

Hey jtslate.

I got it un-working. But the friend I got it from said it worked up till about a week ago and just stopped. I used to play around with it when I visited so I know it worked.

I want to go over it and check everything but... I can't get the cabinet open.

I can only find the one release latch on the right. The one on the left is either obscured by some metal housing... or in a different place.
10  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / A little help with a Cocktail cabinet. on: August 05, 2015, 03:51:23 pm
Hello guys! I'll be the first to admit I'm new here and to a home arcade setting in general. I have always wanted to have a "Home Arcade" though and recently jumped in with my first 2 games.
Anyhow. Here's my problem, and hoping someone can help.

I got a 1981 cocktail cabinet. Armor Attack. (Rock-Ola)

Did work, then didn't for no reason.

So, I do know the fuse is toast and am going to get a new one and hope that's it. But, I can't get the thing to swing open.

I know there are clips holding it together on the inner area through the coin door. However, I can only access the clip on the right. I'm assuming there should be a clip on the left but a metal housing is blocking access to the left side. So I'm wondering if some of these cabinets maybe had the locking clips in other areas.

This isn't a Mod, the unit is original and you simply can't access the second clip on the left of the machine to release the top. Unless... the clip in this particular model is somewhere else.

Any help would be great!
