I have a Neo Geo 4 Slot with a 25 inch monitor/Wells Gardner 7000 chasis, and an RCA/Thompson Tube. The monitor is of the self converging variety (no convergence rings). What puzzles me, is the yoke. The adhesive and screw which normally holds the yoke on is gone, you can eve see the residue from the adhesive tape.

Is there any danger of the yoke falling off or moving on it’s own? Has anyone seen anything like that before?

I'm a newbie here still as I do not have a cabinet yet. However, I am contemplating purchasing a Neo Geo cabinet. I would like to have a CRT monitor in it, even though some folks advise I should use LCD as they are more reliable and I have little background on how to service a CRT.

My question is, if a CRT is recapped, on average, how long is the lifespan before you begin to see problems again? A monitor in question would be a Wells Gardner K7000. If a Wells Gardner K7000 was recapped, how long would it last before it starts to have problems or outright dies on me.

My second question is, and I may get attacked for this, is it wiser to just go the LCD route? Are parts and service on CRTs becoming less easy to access thus suggesting we should move on to modern times? I hate to think this, as CRT monitors look beautiful. I was in the Vintage Arcade Superstore several months ago and the CRT pictures on those cabinets were gorgeous.

I own a Neo Geo AES which is the home version of the Neo Geo released in 1990, this is NOT the arcade cabinet version/MVS. The systems are identical andjavascript:void(0); Neo Geo was advertised as bringing pixel perfect arcade experience to your living room.

I dusted it off and hooked it up last night to a CRT TV in my house and it fired right up. However, I noticed the quality of the picture itself was less than impressive. Nothing is wrong with the system, but I am confused as the quality of the picture on the CRT TV is nowhere near the quality I've seen on Neo Geo MVS (arcade) cabinets. What could cause this? Is there a difference in quality between a home TV and a monitor (such as a Wells Gardner) featured in an arcade cabinet?

CRT vs LCD when playing games from the 1980s and 1990s, which do you prefer?

For a MAME cabinet, is an LCD with MAME scanlines turned on give you the same effect/experience as a CRT?

Also, has anyone ever heard of this monitor: Weiya 29" CRT Arcade Monitor

It's a flat screen CRT being used in the X-Arcade. Is it any good or up to the quality of the Wells Gardners?

Since I've started my research on purchasing a Neo Geo cabinet I've come across these Neo Geo systems which have a cartridge holding 161 to 201 Neo Geo games.

Is there a reason why more people don't buy these? Is there an advantage to owning a 4 Slot over the the 201 in 1? I'm guessing it is because it isn't an original Neo Geo product from the early 1990s, no marquee, thus not the original experience? Do the games run and look the same on the 201 in 1 vs a traditional 4 Slot?

Any ideas how much a restored 4 Slot Neo Geo should cost? I'm in the market for one. I'd want a system that is already restored and in good shape with side art, sound, marquee, etc...

Also, how much should the MVS carts cost? I've seen them on this website and some go for over 100 each. Should they be fetching that much?

Wondering what folks' thoughts here is on Mame cabinets.

I think it is obviously the best bang for your buck and space. Thousands of games in one cabinet.

But what about the emulation itself? I've heard of some games not being able to perfectly emulate the gameplay on certain games. For example, I've read Robotron 2084 has limitations in Mame as the game gets very difficult quick. If you make it past Level 9 or 10 you've really achieved something.

What are your thoughts? Mame may be the best financially and in terms of space but is it really the best when it comes to giving you the same experience of the original rom/game itself? Does the monitor effect the way the game appears? For example, does a Wells Gardner display differently than these modern Mame cabinets with fancy monitors and does that effect the gaming experience?

Also, isn't there something about having the cabinet, the marquee, and the artwork to the original game?

There are quite a few businesses who sell refurbished arcade games out there. Does anyone have a recommendation on a few? Somewhere that sells 1980s early 90s arcade games and does a good job refurbishing back to like new condition. I don't mind spending extra money if that means getting a great restoration.
