1  Tech and Marketplace / For Sale / Wanted / Cheap DKJ in Texas on: March 14, 2017, 08:16:45 pm
Not mine, and be careful for scams, but DKJ on ebay right now for $250 Buy it now... seller says it "works".. no other detail..If I wasn't literally on the other side of the country, I'd be taking the day off tomorrow to go see it..  Someone from John's group should definitely get this if it's good...

I've metered off AC many times -- I wouldn't think 120v is enough to blow it (or it's internal fuse).

DEFINITELY correct, IF you're on voltage mode, but if you're on a resistance measurement / continuity mode, and hit 120vac, I would expect it to pop...  Never done it myself, but I wouldn't expect it to handle that..  I didn't mean to imply it couldn't handle it on VAC mode..
3  Tech and Marketplace / I need help with my game! - Technical Discussion / Question on control panel wiring on: September 27, 2015, 09:35:22 pm
I've been working on an intermittent fire button on my galaga, and although I think I have the issue solved, the wires going into the molex from the harness have definitely been hacked up over the years by someone, and I'd like to replace the molex connector..

Does anyone know exactly the type of molex connector that's supposed to be on a Galaga CP, or know where to figure it out?   I could probably figure out the exact type that's in there now, but since it's been hacked up, I don't want to assume it's the original type, and I'd like to keep this machine as original as possible.

Thanks!
Steve

I'm not 100% sure I know where you're talking about reading continuity, but WITH THE MACHINE UNPLUGGED, if you are testing continuity on both connections of a secondary coil, you will have low ohms, and will show continuity.  Do not test continuity there with the transformer "hot" because this will be the 120v output, and you'll blow up your meter..

For pin, I would say an original Black Knight, but I already have that, so having played a Wizard of Oz this Summer, I have to say is was pretty cool, and would be my choice..

For video..  Hmm..  I think Joust..

Now to figure out why the coin slot lights aren't getting power.

Has your machine been retrofitted with a DC power supply?  I read somewhere that the coin slot lights needed the AC supply and they wouldn't work if the board was modified for a DC supply..  I have no personal experience with that, but have been reading as much as I can, since I just got a cocktail MsPac myself.

Have you tested for ANY voltage at the coin slot lights?  I expect 14v AC there on an unmodified one, but if it's been modified, I wonder if there's an easy way to retrofit with 12vDC and just use one of the many LED retrofits for the #194 bulbs?

Speaking of those bulbs, I've been wondering what the allowable reverse voltage would be on the LED replacements..  Would it be safe to run them on 14vAC?

I repaired the PCB edge and found $2.26 and a toothpick inside of the coin slot!

That's funny - I got a MsPac cocktail last weekend which wouldn't accept coins, and I found $1.75 in mine..  No toothpick though - Mine was not working because someone had jammed the coin accepter in there without any of the screw nubs to line it up, so it was just kind of misaligned..  Working great now..

I'll have to take a look at your videos - Mine has the speed up which I'd like to get rid of too, and seems to be a modded PacMan because no ribbon..  Looks to have bigger EPROMs with some pins pulled out and bridged to some memory management chip ..   I'll have to take a better look when I get tired of playing it!  :-)
