Title: Want to buy DK jr and a nintendo monitor
Post by: Retrogamer1998 on April 02, 2014, 09:21:53 pm
Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a DK jr cabinet to go along with my DK that I have. I also have my dedicated vs system to trade for one as well. It has lots of extra parts and games with it. Also my DK needs a new monitor put in it. The old one has a ton of problems and I would rather buy a different one to put in it. I would prefer it to be an original monitor like the one that's in it now. If you have either of these things for sale or trade let me know. Thanks

i know that there are companies now making repro cabs.  might be worth a shot looking into one of those

What are the issues with the monitor, did you recap it? Because you could buy another monitor and it could go shortly after you get it, best to learn how to fix your monitor.

Totally unnecessary. Nintendo cabinets are not hard to find.

It needs recapped but I have no idea how to do it and some people around here have said it could cost up to $150 to have it done. Seems a bit pricy if you ask me.

Guy I know charges roughly 150 for a recap, flyback, solder reflow, he even reenforces traces when necessary. The flyback alone is like 35 dollars. You're paying a professional for a skilled service. Ya get what ya pay for. It is a square deal.

Amt monitor you buy for under $150 is going to have issues sonnet than later.

Capping a monitor is easy. So is changing a flyback. Once you know how to solder properly.

Why do you say that, Tighe? If you ask me, a rebuilt 20EZ is about $100-$150 to a collector friend.

That is a great deal, I never see rebuilt one selling for cheap.

I can fix monitors or send you parts to do the same. As for the DK jr. I have two. One working and one non-working. The non-working one kind of works but the board has a few issues.

How much are you wanting for the non working one? And if you could recap my monitor that would be awesome

I am in central PA. As far as the monitor goes, you don't have soldering iron?

I do not. Even if I did I'm so young and new to the hobby I would have no idea what to do

I think you should really start learning how to work on your games. Have you watched john's videos on capping a monitor?

I have not. I've watched a lot of his videos on restoring machines and all but nothing on monitors. I can fix about anything except a monitor as of right now. I totally agree tho I should learn how to do that

as far as capping a monitor goes it is just a matter of desoldering a cap and resoldering in a new one. Pretty simple, just a pain. As far as fixing monitors, its a completely different matter. Always try capping first. it won't hurt anything and often fixes a lot of small problems.

Ok I'll definitely do that. As for your DK jr what is the problem with the board? If you were willing to let it go as is I may be able to work on the board or ever get a new one if it is needed.

Its pretty fucked overall. It boots but when you try to play the game its easy as balls. The alligators dont move. You can get to level 2 but you cant move the keys so you just die at the end of the time. Sound is pretty messed up overall with random volumes and incorrect pitches. I think I can fix the audio but I am pretty unsure what to do with the game issues. I am willing to get rid of the game. I can take some pictures. There is no sideart and the cabinet is in fairly rough condition. Outside looks okay but Inside is another mess all together.

I'm definitely up to the challenge to restore it if the price is right. I could give you my number if you would like to send a few pics
