Title: WTB - Journey parts - PCB HARNESS ETC.
Post by: John's Arcade on March 09, 2014, 10:01:09 am
I'm on the hunt for parts to do a Journey restore. I need pretty much everything.

Harness, artwork, control panel, PCB, power supply, cassette player, etc. etc. etc.

If you have any MCR stuff please let me know. I should be able to convert a Tapper PCB to Journey. So, I would love to get any MCR harness I can. I will buy junk games too to get these parts.

Thanks!

I just found a control panel. Take that off the list. :)

Here is a spy hunter PCB, i believe you can use it.

If you look above you'll see we were already talking about the art. Rich is holding a set for me. I'm all set on the art.

The #1 thing right now is the PCB. I have most of everything else. I do have a Tron harness on the way but would take an original harness instead.

you mentioned you knew some people with MCR board sets. Grab one or ebay it, they seem fairly cheap.

I should have a Tapper PCB soon. I thought I could convert it but I might be wrong. I cant' find any clear documentation on it and no one seems to agree. According to the MCR FAQ Tapper and Journey share the same board stack. HOWEVER, I am hearing that Journey has its own unique Super CPU board. When I get the Tapper I'm gonna try to get it working first then swap ROMs and see what happens. If I can't get the Tapper PCB working I have a back up plan that involves the Tapper PCB. :)

Also, for the casette interface amp board...

I have learned of a way to recreate the casette player with an Arduino and an MP3 Shield. I will most likely go this route.

you should check out the sparkfun MP3 trigger. no arduino required, just trigger one of the input switches to play mp3 N. etc.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I wonder what makes it stop, though?!

Can you test the theory by using the tapper you already have?

Was playing journey on my 438 in 1 yesterday, never played it on original so can't really compare, but if you want to know anything special about it let me know.

FYI -- the Journey board had a unique Super CPU board in the stack. The model is 91475. If I can find this single board I should be home free.

"91475 (Journey)
            * identical to 90010 except:
            * sprite colors 0-63, upper two bits come from video gen
            * sprite colors 48-63 have an extra bit for higher grayscale resolution"

Yeah. I read that too. What's odd is 90010 is MCR ii. Journey is MCR iii

Interesting thread, shows links to how endless cassettes work, plus a story of one guys own restoration.

Nice to see they are still for sale in various formats depending on the length of time required, example below for a 3 min tape which perfectly matches the sample length.

Hope you go down the tape player route.

Yeah it's something different, but for me I guess I'm trying to persuade you down the tape route - it's a cool original feature of this machine.

I can make the tape for you too !

Believe me, I want the cassette player. But, I think it will be very interesting to find an easy modern replacement that works.

For the super cpu board alone? No.

I already can buy a working PCB for tall money. I need one for a deal

Thans, Leslie! Yes, I have used that adapter before. It's ok. It works well in some games and not so well in others. I have a working original power supply on the way. I am hoping that will do the trick! Otherwise, I will for sure get one of those.

Here's what I should have so far. I haven't received much of this in the mail yet:

1 - Control Panel
2 - Tapper PCB
3 - Working Power Supply
4 - Power Supply and PCB brackets
5 - Tron harness
6 - Audio Amp (I already had this)

Need:

1 - Artwork (waiting until I have the extra $$)
2 - A working PCB. Gonna try to use the Tapper. But, we'll see...
3 - Misc. stuff like buttons, etc.
4 - Casette interface board/amp and cassette player -- OR, I will do the Arduino.
