Title: New Guy! Need some Advice! (Zaxxon)
Post by: NintendoCollector on December 03, 2013, 01:36:28 pm
Hey guys! So I've been wanting to get into the arcade scene for quite sometime now. I'm a Nintendo collector (As you can tell from my username haha) and have been wanting to get some sort of arcade cabinet for awhile now. I know next to nothing about them and would love to get a nice starter machine to work on and maybe do a little restoration on. Almos tnothing good ever pops up for sale in my area but this did and I wanted to get some opinions on it. It's a Zaxxon cabinet. I have no idea if it's all original but thats where I guess you guys come in! He says the only real things wrong with it are the bottom part where you take out the money doesnt have a lock (which shouldn't be a problem to get a new one right?) and it doesnt actually take money I guess. His exact words are "I think that part where it accepts money needs tweeked. When I want to play I just flick the spot where the quarter would normally hit." So is this something that sounds too much for a beginner? I'll put some photos and thanks in advance guys! He's asking 150 on it.

That's an original cabinet and $150 is good. I'd grab it. It'll be a fun project. The coin mech issues should be pretty easy to figure out.

Cool find. Buy it! It sounds like the arm that is pushed down by the falling quarter needs to be put back in the correct shape. Maybe it is bent.

Awesome I do need a new overlay! I did have a question on putting some new vinyl... So I want to keep the original sideart because it's in GREAT shape. Is there any easy way to apply the new vinyl around it? Also should I sand anything down since it's like a brown paint as of right now?

What do you mean around it?

It should apply well if it is super clean and flat.

Sand it if you want to re-finish it

you cant sand it.. its vinyl over vinyl.
either it all has to come off or you gotta be reeeeelly good with an exacto knife.
