Title: New-ish To The Forum - Finally Saying "Hey!" Post by: harmonicone on December 02, 2013, 12:05:33 pm Hi All,
Just wanted to officially introduce myself. I'm a gamer (console, arcade, tabletop, you name it) from Western PA and I joined the forums close to a month ago looking for some advice on how to properly move my first cabinet ever - a Street Fighter 2 3-KOAM Model K3. Many thanks to alby13 for being a huge help in that thread. Well I got that lovely beast into my home (relatively) safe and sound and she's up and running. It's JAMMA standard and is currently running a 450-in-1 Gamebox. As much as I'd love this to be a dedicated SF2:CE cab with the real PCB, I just don't have the floor space for multiple cabs right now and I enjoy the variety the Gamebox affords. I've included some pictures of the cab below, basically what it looked like when I got it home and what it looks like now that I've dropped in an original 1992 marquee and put on the reproduction side-art. It still needs some paint and wood work done to it but that'll be more down the line. For being 22 years old with no restoration (that I'm aware of) ever done to it, she's not looking too shabby :) Glad to be here on the forums and big ups to John from John's Arcade - love the YouTube channel, man! http://smg.photobucket.com/user/HarmonicSilence/media/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131117_014348.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 http://smg.photobucket.com/user/HarmonicSilence/media/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131117_173231.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://smg.photobucket.com/user/HarmonicSilence/media/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131117_213453.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http://smg.photobucket.com/user/HarmonicSilence/media/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131128_212006.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Title: Re: New-ish To The Forum - Finally Saying "Hey!" I have that same cabinet. How is that game box? Is the emulation good? Yep, I actually saw your YouTube video on it, yours is in really good shape! The Gamebox is fun for sure and I'd give its emulation capabilities a 7 out of 10. Granted they've made newer Gameboxes since, this is one of the oldest "Aldine" Gameboxes, it's the 2008 450-in-1 model that runs on a DOS backend. The newer ones shipped with better hardware and now use Win2000 as the back end OS. I'd say 60% of the games run just like you'd want them to, another 30% are what I'd call 'playable', and the remaining 10% are unplayable due to lag on the Gamebox 450-in-1's hardware. It's not perfect, but enough of the great games on it work well enough to make this old Gamebox fun and still worth while. :) Title: Re: New-ish To The Forum - Finally Saying "Hey!" Post by: alby13 on December 02, 2013, 10:38:57 pm Oh ho ho! Now that is a handsome machine!(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v413/HarmonicSilence/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131128_212006.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/HarmonicSilence/media/Arcade%20Cabinet/20131128_212006.jpg.html)
I've been waiting for these pics, and they couldn't be any better. Thank you and welcome *flourish* I love the graphics and marquee it looks damn good. Speaking of multi-boards, the two best on the market I believe are "Game Elf" and "Pandora's Box" 485-in-1 (aka 500-in-1) Game Elf Horizontal Arcade Multigame JAMMA PCB - $135 http://www.jammaboards.com/store/485-in-1-aka-500-in-1-game-elf-horizontal-arcade-multigame-jamma-pcb-485in1.html Pandora's Box Version 2 (400-in-1) Horizontal Multigame JAMMA PCB - $150 AKA Just Another Pandora's Box 2 http://www.jammaboards.com/store/pandoras-box-version-2-400-in-1-horizontal-multigame-jamma-pcb.html These boards probably are 99% Playable with over 85% Arcade Perfect The next level beyond these is basically a special computer designed to plug into Jamma for $250+ Title: Re: New-ish To The Forum - Finally Saying "Hey!" Post by: harmonicone on December 17, 2013, 08:25:07 pm Thanks Alby! You are far too kind. I really appreciate the compliments and sorry for not replying back sooner! She's my first arcade machine so I'm taking a lot of pride in her. Also thank you for the tips on the multi-boards, I'm definitely going to look into both of those! Honestly the only thing that prevents the cabinet from being a homerun is that the plastic covering only went so far up on the control panel and a strip of it at the top has sustained what I can only imagine is sun damage, you can see it in the picture. Any ideas how I could get that off? I'm thinking a new vinyl overlay for the control pad might be the only option. Thanks again!
