Title: scanline generators
Post by: spacel0rd on November 01, 2013, 08:08:47 am
For someone like me who's stuck with LCD screens and wishes he had a CRT screen, is getting a scanline generator the answer?  And is it as simple as it looks to set up?  Do you just bridge it between the board and the monitor?

you mean to simulate the CRT look only?

$60 is quite expensive. in my experience doing scanlines by software gave me a decent feel for certain games.

why not just get a real CRT? yes it looks like you just plug it in between the two, then  adjust the picture

The way the cabinet waw built it was made for LCD screens.  Adding a CTR would take more work than I'm willing to do.
I saw a scanline generator on ebay for 30.00....so I may go for it.

You need this:  Crafty Mech's mini SLG
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129344.0.html

It's a tiny butt connector that goes in between your VGA port and the monitor.

And is not expensive!  I think he has a sale right now:  $21 + FREE SHIPPING.  :-)

If you know how to solder you can make a VGA scan line generator dirt cheap! http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/other/vga-scanlines.htm

Great link.  Interesting.  The thing I like about Crafty Mech's mini SLG is that it has an amazingly small footprint.  Great for Bartop builds.  Especially if you're using any kind of all in one Jamma board for tight spaces.
