Title: Hello from northern Alberta
Post by: Hooligan93 on August 24, 2016, 02:52:59 pm
After watching a lot of Johns and arcade impossible videos, I finally took the plunge and found a great deal on a couple of cabinets. The ad was for two non working cabs, one a cocktail 1942 and the standup was an unknown fighting game with both monitors not working. Picked both up thinking the flybacks were shot as he described just a dot of light at center of screen on one and a thin line of light on the other. The cabinets were really dirty and ruff and the upright was a Taito cab with Qix bezel glass but a Techmo CP.
I got the Cabs home cleaned the glass and CP off the Cocktail cab and pluged it in. Sure enough it came to life with a 5x2 area slightly lit in middle of the monitor. Opened it upright away noticed the edge connector wasn't connected to PC boards. Powered down plugged in connector, checked for any other broken or loose wires and powered it up. It came to life right away just adjusted the v size and h size and was good to go. After playing a bit adjusted the clearance on the leaf buttons and cleaned up the sticky joystick and was good to go. Only annoyance is no attract mode with free play.
Now my attention turned to the taito cab. cleaned up the glass and Cp powered it up and was greeted with with Ninja Gaiden. It needed some screen adjustments so went to the back and opened it up adjusted the colors and size and then went to play it but it had changed to a thin horizontal line across the screen. Powered it off then on it was back to normal for a few minutes and did it again. Figured I'd just clean up the back glass and monitor screen better and while I did that I bumped the screen lightly and the monitor went back to normal. I figure it must be a bad connection on the monitor but it hasn't acted up since
Anyway my first jump into the arcade pond has been very positive. Just a quick question though should I try to restore the taito cab back to a Qix machine or leave it as ninja Gaiden?

I would grab the Multi-Taito board and restore that thing back. :)

Arcadeshop.com has it.

Thanks, I will look into the Taito multiboard.

Just a quick question about the cocktail cabinet, are there any resources online to identify cocktail cabs. Have found plenty for standup cabinets. Mine looks similar to 70s atari cocktails like Asteroids and Missle command but coin door and vent grills are in different positions. Will post a picture soon.
