Title: I moved my Donkey Kong arcade a few feet & now I'm having graphics issues :( Post by: aquamonkey on June 23, 2016, 08:40:20 pm I bought this DKJR cab with Blaze (I believe) DDK conversion kit last fall and have had no real problems with it to-date. The only complaint I ever had was with some color shift on the top left corner of the monitor that was just a degauss issue as best I could tell. The last time I moved the machine it was from the first floor to the basement. For whatever reason, down there the monitor looked the best it ever had. No color shift anywhere.
So, cut to today, about 7 months after the initial move to the basement, I decided to move it from one wall in the basement to the other, maybe 10 feet at most. Pretty gently move across the room all things considered. I plugged it up and started to play and for 10 minutes everything was great. Then I got some weirdness going on, which was first only noticeable on the barrel level which is what I have attached the picture of below. Now I'm starting to see it on all levels. Weird vertical distortions that only seem to happen on the top three-fourths of the screen. Now the color is shifted again as well (purples and yellows), but I'd be ok with that if it wasn't for this other graphical distortion. The game plays fine. It just looks goofy. And every now and then it just completely goes back to normal for a while all by itself. When it seemed to be the barrel level that I had the issue with, I thought it might have to do with he color red only. I played with the pots on the neck board as well as on the inverter board located by the fly-back, but they only had the anticipated impact, (made colors stronger, softer, etc.) but did nothing to fix the problem. I'm pretty bummed out, as you can imagine and am looking for any helpful suggestions I can get. Again, the problem comes and goes without my physical intervention and the game is fully playable, which I think means this might be CRT only and not game PCB related. But I'm just guessing there. Thank you for your time if you are able to reply to this. Here are some images. The title screen looking just fine. (http://imgur.com/uN53yPl) And the barrel level demo showing the vertical distortion. These pictures were taken seconds apart, with nothing touched or changed in-between. (http://imgur.com/rKuo6IG) I'm new and don't pretend to be super well versed in these things so if I can provide more info, different info to ask a better question, please let me know as well. Thank you! Title: Re: I moved my Donkey Kong arcade a few feet & now I'm having graphics issues :( Post by: John's Arcade on June 24, 2016, 08:05:16 am Pictures aren't showing.
It's gotta be something simple. Check all your connections? Video? If you have a gauss issue it's not uncommon for this to move around on the monitor relative to earth's polarity. So I pulled the boards and inspected them. Nothing visually wrong, no missing or broken caps, etc. so I just re-seated them and....low and behold, it's working perfectly now. Fingers crossed that I get a bit more life out of it like this. Thanks for looking and replying.
