Title: Help with Scramble arcade game Post by: scott917 on May 15, 2016, 02:20:05 am Hello all!
I am looking at a Scramble game that is for sale in my area. but the only thing wrong with it is that when you fire the "laser"... the "bullets" appear above your spaceship. about an inch and a half above it. does anyone know what might be wrong or if this is an easy fix? bad PCB? bad ROMS? I would kinda like to get the game, the cabinet is in ok shape, but i think it would make for a nice project for my first game. There are some smaller things wrong with it, but i am confident that i can fix them. Thanks for any and all help! If it is indeed an original dedicated, it's complete, and the price is right, I would grab it. Could be a chip reseat to fix. Hard to say! How much is it?
Title: Re: Help with Scramble arcade game Post by: scott917 on May 15, 2016, 10:51:12 pm it is an original game. with the Stern stencil on the sides, it is painted on(it looks spray painted to tell the truth) i think it looks good as it, rustic and original and that is the way i would leave it.
the monitor has a teeny bit of burn in mainly from the high scores screen.... but nothing too bad sadly there are L-brackets used to hold the back panel of the game on and also to hold the control panel on. the brackets for the back panel actually wrap around the top onto the side panels. not that hard a fix, but it would be screw holes to patch. the CPO is badly worn but i am sure there are others out there for sale. the marque looks to be in good condition, and the bezel also looks good enough to pass muster for now. they could be replaced, but are very passable. the cabinet looks to be original. the bottoms of the side panels are "frayed" and would need some attention. the coin door has no keys(not a big deal) but to "coin-up" they drilled a small hole in the door and put in a small push button to add credits... i would like an original un-molested coin door myself. the game played fine, but i think the guy is asking too much. he wants $600 for it. the ad is on craigslist. he is selling a Pleades for $400 that is in similar condition, but i dont like that game myself. i walked away from it for now. i may let him sit on it for a while and if it is still available later make him a lower offer. First re-seat all the ROMs. Then swap out the video RAM (the 8216 RAMs just below the ROMs on the lower PCB) and/or the 2114 RAMs where-ever they are. After that you have a logic fault. It's old early hardware and was bootlegged to the max so the schems may be available. |
