Title: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on November 15, 2015, 09:53:18 pm I have a Pacman Plus and once in a while Pacman has a blue block around him. It goes a away for a little while then comes back. Has anybody seen this before and knows what to look at to fix this?
Thanks, Kevin. Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: iankellogg on November 16, 2015, 08:35:41 am initial guess would be bad eprom or bad connection with eprom. Maybe the sockets are dirty for 5e 5f
Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on November 17, 2015, 01:23:48 pm Just replaced 5e and 5f with no change, but haven't had a chance to check the sockets. I will have to do this this weekend.

Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on November 23, 2015, 04:14:59 pm I put contact cleaner on the sockets and then let it dry. Tried the game with the same results. The blue block is only around pacman and nothing else on the screen.

Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: iankellogg on December 06, 2015, 12:06:01 am i'm honestly not sure. The eprom feeds the output buffer memory almost directly and all the sprites share that same pathway. the only thing left I can think of is the color prom is bad. Maybe the palette is bad that pacman uses and nothing else.
Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on December 11, 2015, 05:17:43 pm Ian thanks for responding. I will have to look at the color proms next.
I soldered a cap kit for this board and still getting the same blue box around Pacman. I also tried it in a known good cab with proper voltage, this did not help. Anybody else have any ideas? Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: HarrieD on December 14, 2015, 02:45:29 pm This issue is caused by the sprite roms. Put them in an eprom reader and verify them with the ones from mame. I guess that fixes your problem.
Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on January 03, 2016, 11:17:38 am Reflow solder to 5e and 5f sockets. Already tested and programmed new 5e and 5f. This did not help. Color prom 7f and 4a I reflowed solder to these sockets. I had already replaced one of these sockets. Just need to check color prom programming.
Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on January 25, 2016, 08:53:03 pm How does one read the color proms? I have a Xeltek SuperPro III programmer, but don't know what device to choice to read these. If his programmer can read them. Please help me!

Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on January 26, 2016, 11:08:02 am What programmer do you have that will do Bipolar proms?
Thanks Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: iankellogg on January 26, 2016, 11:15:01 am some of the really old ones can do it like the data IO or datamann. I think there are a few others but I don't know too much about every programmer there is.
I think the TOPMAX II can do some bipolars as well. Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: kcase01 on January 26, 2016, 01:53:53 pm Do you know what the chip numbers are for the two bipolar for Pac man 7F and 4A?

I just tried to read both 7F and 4A with my programmer (Xeltek SuperPro III) it did read them. The manual does say it supports Bipolar Proms. I am just not sure on how to program them. How to I get the proms. Do you sell them? If so sell me a 82s123. I need to program 7F Pac Man Plus. It looks like my programmer will write them. It has voltage of 12v and 24V. Please let me know if you do sell them. Thanks Kevin Title: Re: Pacman Plus graphic glitch Post by: iankellogg on January 26, 2016, 09:17:57 pm I don't have any for sale, they are a super pain to get. Best place i know of right now to get them is https://www.twistywristarcade.com/
I can't find your programmer anywhere online to look up the manual or else I would have helped you on that.
