Title: Cap Kit Post by: grantopia on July 16, 2015, 08:19:31 pm Hi All,
Pretty new to the repair game...can anyone help me understand what a cap kit is? Thanks/sorry! Title: Re: Cap Kit Post by: offset on July 16, 2015, 11:06:53 pm quoting from http://arcade.50megs.com/capkit/capkit.htm
"An arcade monitors control board will typically contain a dozen or so electrolytic capacitors. Over time the electrolytic dries up, leaks out, etc. and the capacitor will eventually stop working. Even before the capacitor stops working it will change its tolerance levels due to deterioration. Bad capacitors cause many visible problems in a monitor. The monitor might suffer from ghosts, warping, dimness, blacking out, smearing, jail bars, shrinking, missing scan lines, etc. Eventually a bad capacitor will cause other components to fail also." General jist is a cap kit is just a bunch of capacitors in a bag (or tape strip ;) ) that you use to replace all the electrolytic capacitors. Sometimes a dim monitor, bars across the screen, distoration, or flickering. stuff like that can be fixed. Even completely dead monitors can be brought back to life with new capacitors. Is there a good resource out there for someone who wants to understand more about how these games work and the different components inside?
Title: Re: Cap Kit Post by: iankellogg on July 17, 2015, 08:50:13 am There are a lot of things inside any game. You just have to ask the right questions, If you post here on the forum i will always answer your questions and point you in the right direction.
As a simple starting point, always find the manual for the game you are looking at and read through it. They often show diagrams of how it is wired up, what parts look like and how they are put together. |
