Title: weird sound
Post by: Vis3c on June 11, 2015, 05:25:39 am
Today i had a little surprise

i wanted to play a little round of good old MK1, but as soon as i pull the switch to turn the machine on, i heared a horrible electric sound. that scared the shit out of me  :o i panicked, and shut the thing down...
then it smelled like burned plastic or somethig.
i think something near my monitor died? maybe i am wrong

here are some fotos i took, where the smell was strong

maybe you can help me once again?

you need to remove the neckboard and inspect it better than the photos you took. I don't see anything that looks burnt from those photos. Take the neckboard off and take another photo looking straight down on it. Also It would be nice if you can figure out what the monitor is.

I don't see any real signs of toasted parts. I can see the transistors are getting hot and the one with the bent tab should be dealt with in some fashion.

Just take a photo of the main PCB on the monitor and I should be able to figure it out. just need a photo of the whole pcb.

sorry, but i am stupid... the name of the monitor was there the whole time  ;D

Its an MTC 9300 i think.

but i still have the problem with the sound, and still dont know how to fix it.

So a recap of this problem. The monitor works? You are having audio problems with the game?

No.
i wanted to play for a little bit a few days ago, so i turn it on as normal, but there was a weird electric scratch sound, then something smelled burned

But it still works?

Does it still make a electrical sound? kind of like arcing?

I think your flyback is cracked. pull the whole PCB out. and take a good look at the flyback.

ok, thanks for the help.

i will take it out, and write back tomorrow!

Wow, it looks like the connector on the left is lighting up as well.

I'm not familiar with that chassis.

Yeah i think i was looking at it the wrong way around. Where that light is coming from is not the flyback. You are most certainly going to want to look at the PCB and find out where that light is coming from.

Looking at that video makes me think that the isolation is broken behind the flyback. I think the flyback is sparking to ground on your board. So be carefull with removing the PCB and switching it on. You cannot be certain where is shorts out to when you put the board in a free space.

But hey, i'm not an expert.

on the second pic i suspect that's a crack in the flyback.

can any one confirm that?

Title: Re: weird sound
Post by: iankellogg on June 19, 2015, 04:48:52 pm
Looks a bit odd but not sure if it's cracked.

so what would you guys recommend?

I will have to think about it for a bit. I wasn't able to find anyone that has the flyback transformer for sale so not sure what to do next.

Isolate it with some tape. See if it changes anything. Use caution!

can you say where i should isolate it? maybe with marking on the picture?

I do not recommend doing this. At best it won't do anything, at worst it will cause a fire.

well i dont want a fire in my house so... ;D

I think for this my diagnosis is a bad flyback and I can't find a way to repair this, there are no available new as far as i can tell.

I recommend posting this question to KLOV, see if anyone else has suggestions.

so i asked on KLOV and they said my flyback is toasted... great!
well now i dont know how to continue. can you guys maybe tell me how this flyback is called exactly? so i can search on google, or do you have better ideas?

-Thanks

I already searched and couldn't find any source for a flyback for this monitor.

i think i should look for a new monitor... do you guys know a shop who sends to switzerland?  ;D

I am sure most arcade shops will send internationally. I have no idea if one of the universal chassis would work with that tube. But i can try to find out.

i cant find the required information to answer that question. I cant find a schematic for the universal chassis.

can i do something to help?

Title: Re: weird sound

on KLOV they said i maybe could use a flyback from the 9000 series (i have a MTC9300).
i dont know, i dont want to damage my chassis.

that sucks... i want to play on my machine again  :-[
