Title: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: ExitWound on January 25, 2015, 03:48:05 pm Just picked up a Track & Field - first arcade to own. Looks great next to the four pinball machines. I've been messing with the edge connector wiring attempting to fix a trackball issue on the game and BAM! Knocked my head off the neck of the tube and snapped it. POP! HISSSSSSSSsssssssssssss! Frown. :(
The monitor was gorgeous. From what I can see on the stickers, it's an Electrohonme G07CBO (38-G07-904-00) with zero burn-in on the tube, which is marked 19VJTP22/19VMAP22. Everything video was working great. Colors were nice. No artifacts of any mention. But now with a cracked neck, how do I proceed? What are the next steps? If anyone can help me out, that'd be great. It happens to all of us, don't feel bad! I did it on my Pac-Man cabaret. :(
Here's a good starting point: http://junknet.net/donor-tvs Or... just find another monitor and start over. But UGH! I feel so stupid. Thing is, I rap my head coming out from under tables and desks ALL THE TIME! I think it's my glasses. You'd think I'd have learned by now the dimensions of my noggin. Apparently not. Just rapped it right off that thing. Knew exactly what I did. Can't be more angry with myself. I've been doing some reading for a few hours (since I can't play it) and still learning the ins and outs of tube swapping. First, I need a tube with the same pinout (CR-23). Then, from what I've gathered so far, I can use the G07's yoke on the new replacement tube since I know the G07 chassis and yoke were fine before my accident. But my biggest primary need is a 19" tube with a CR-23 socket, correct? If I go dumpster diving or sidewalk picking or thrift-store searching, this is what I need to begin, correct? Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: iankellogg on January 26, 2015, 01:51:55 pm You need to find one with the correct socket and a close reading on the yoke winding resistance.

But if I use the same yoke, the need for the winding values goes away and is replaced with convergence issues, yes? Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: iankellogg on January 26, 2015, 03:20:24 pm Potentially you could end up with convergence issues. You are better off leaving the yoke the same and just getting a tube with a close value.

You are better off leaving the yoke the same and just getting a tube with a close value. The list of potential high ohm yokes seems to be shallow though, compared to the number of low ohm yokes out there. I don't want to end up with 10 broken tv's in my basement in the end :) Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: P-feif on January 26, 2015, 05:20:19 pm Here this is a shop local to me called Big Toys. I just had them rejuvinate a tube for me and they told me that they have a lot of tubes in stock. I'm sure they can ship one to you if they have the correct one.

G07's are alittle harder to find direct drop ins... I just did one myself. you have two options. harvest a G07 from a junk machine you pick up cheap. just dive in (got nothing to loose) and find a donor tv with a direct drop in tube. 3rd option gets ugly.. buy a working good g07 off ebay or seller (pricey) Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: ExitWound on February 01, 2015, 09:00:39 pm Thanks for all the ideas. I managed to get the G07 out of the cabinet today. Got the machine hooked up to a CGA->VGA converter in the meantime so I can at least play it.
The monitor looked to have no burn or issues when in the cabinet beneath the smoked plexi, but in fact, it was in a Pac_Man, probably for quite some time as the burn is pretty noticeable. Still, the picture was great, nice and crisp. I hope to replace the tube soon. Doesn't look to be that difficult from the videos I've watched. Convergence just is something I haven't ever touched before (other than on rear-projection sets). Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: VertexGuy on February 02, 2015, 08:56:17 pm with the right drop in, you might not have to even mess with the convergence.
I did a swap recently and I shit you not.. just hooked up the chassis,, looked brand goddamn new. Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: ExitWound on February 02, 2015, 09:27:18 pm Where did you find the replacement? Craigslist? Another user here? What are some good resources to find these things?
Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: VertexGuy on February 04, 2015, 10:10:09 pm Goodwill or salvation army store.
Just picked a few known drop ins today. Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: ExitWound on February 08, 2015, 10:58:11 pm Goodwill or salvation army store. Just picked a few known drop ins today. I don't know if this is a Pennsylvania law or not, but the Goodwill store here will no longer accept CRTs. (We also can't put them out on the curb either.) Too bad. I have to call recyclers to see if they have them if I'm to find anything apparently :( Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: VertexGuy on February 09, 2015, 09:28:00 am yeah we get fined for putting crt's on the curb in Connecticut.
Goodwill still has them. so I buy em wether I need em or not for now. Title: Re: Snapped CRT neck - I'm an idiot Post by: amoore2600 on February 12, 2015, 03:00:59 pm I made a video for a tube swap I did for a WG 19k7000 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj3kNfdWNdQ
