Title: Pacman question -- would this be considered sacrilege to arcade purists?
Post by: jjohnston2004 on September 19, 2014, 06:29:46 pm
Hello All,

I recently purchased a Ms. Pacman that needs a monitor replacement.

I was hoping to get some opinions if i should replace the monitor with an LCD monitor or stick with a traditional arcade CRT monitor.

My issue with the traditional option is that we all know pacman burn-in is inevitable.

Although I love the nostalgic look the traditional monitor offers, I feel that I would literally be wasting a K7000 that someone else might benefit from.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
Jj

i'm thinking of the exact same thing for two of my data east machines. [robocop + commando]

cheap lcd [4:3] is about 30$ and GBS8200 CGA/EGA/YUV/RGB To VGA is about 30$ so total 60$.

i say has long has it can be undone and you dont cut up the wiring its all good :)

I hear that the G07 that is usually found in ms PACs is great once it's rebuilt so you might could try that if the picture tube is not dead

I always stick with a CRT.

Which city are you from OP?  I'm sure someone locally will take that CRT from you if you dont want it.

+1

I know this is probably going to make me sound like a jerk, but I would rather have a broken game than have a LCD in it, But that's the preservationist in me talking.  ;D
However, it is your game you can do what you want with it. I just hope that you save that CRT somehow, give it away, sell it, or just set it aside in case you ever sell the game, because every year there are less original monitors out there . :(
