Title: Linux anyone? Post by: airsoftmodels on May 06, 2014, 11:43:25 pm Now this is really off topic, but I was just curious how many people on this forum use Linux? If so which distro? I am using Linux Mint KDE right now. There are a lot of emulators that have been ported to Linux as well including MAME.

Title: Re: Linux anyone? Post by: postmortem on May 07, 2014, 01:11:23 am I've played with linux, but I always used old hard drives I got from work and they all died shortly after installing Linux. I had really bad luck. Whenever the drive would die I would get upset and not touch Linux again for a few years. So my experience is limited

Title: Re: Linux anyone? Post by: BloodyCactus on May 07, 2014, 06:59:24 am I converted fully over to linux over 10 years ago. was longtime freebsd user since the late v2 releases.
xubuntu is my flavour of choice. right now, I have one app that I run under wine (diptrace, my schematic/pcb software because Eagle is way too expensive to buy). Title: Re: Linux anyone? Post by: iankellogg on May 07, 2014, 08:43:31 pm I run windows on my desktops because of app support such as cadence, solidworks and altium. But all of my servers run VMware and usually AlpineLinux for core applications with ubuntu taking up anything im too lazy to admin 100% of the time.

Post by: jasonsmith on May 21, 2014, 10:28:12 am I've been running Ubuntu 12.04LTS full time since it's alpha stage. Wife has no issues with it and it's loaded full of opensource software that's suits 98% of our needs. I have Win7 on a partition but only use it for tax software and hacking (Odin) my android devices.
Going to move to 14.04 LTS here once things settle down. Stability and compatibility with my current software is important so waiting it out a bit. Title: Linux anyone? Post by: Etienne MacGyver on May 21, 2014, 02:35:03 pm I am mostly a windows guy, but i have a raspberry wich runs a distro based on debian afaik, i use it as my tiny webserver and its fun to mess around with.
My linux knowledge is limited though. |
